“Journey of Innocence Lost” is a feature drama screenplay written by Lea Ann Vandygriff. This story has been adapted from a portion of my book, “Seasons Once Upon My Innocence.”
The screenplay takes place in a rural southern community full of colorful characters: Aunt Ida, owner of Ida’s Grocery, sassy and is the heartbeat of the town. Sheriff Richards, the only law in town and is constantly budding heads with Aunt Ida. Mildred, an elderly grandmother, and her wild grandsons who are a constant aggravation to the community.
Logline: During one of the most powerful storms in the history of Rhinehart, Mildred, an elderly grandmother is trapped beneath her fallen home. Daniel a young teen is told by his eldest brothers to leave her and flee. Mildred tries to help Daniel to learn to forgive but struggles to find forgiveness in her own heart after repeated unforgivable acts by her grandsons. Daniel’s deep desire for a normal family, leads him right into a trap set by his brothers. Daniel’s journey of innocence is lost when he makes a choice that will change the course of his life forever.
“Journey of Innocence Lost”, is an Award Winner in New York and a Diamond Award Winner in Los Angeles.
A few of the Judges’ comments about the screenplay: “The morals in this story – of doing the right thing, as a community, despite being difficult – is something that’s truly driven home here. All of the characters have a really strong moral compass – especially that of Daniel. The terror of the opening pages of the script really comes through, and watching the community come together after the effects of this tornado is really moving. What it also does is establish the relationships in the community really well, so that as we get to know Daniel and the difficulties his family is facing, we absolutely believe that these people would band together in order to do the right thing and help them out.”
