Do you enjoy reading your own books? So how many times when writing your book to you read and re-read the manuscript before you submit it? Do you ever think enough! I’m going to just submit it and be done.
Folks, that should never be the case. The production process can get aggravating, I’ll give you that, but your writing is a part of who you are and should reflect something about you. No matter what genre you are writing, ask yourself these questions: When you are writing, do you feel the emotions you are trying to convey to the reader? Do you find yourself so involved in the book that hours have gone by and you didn’t realize it?
When I write, I feel that I am living in the story. A part of me is written into every word. When I go back and read it, I may add or take out something. I read it again, verify my work and look for errors. My book is faith based and has a scripture before each chapter that will reflect something in that chapter. I read it again and study each chapter to make sure I like the verse I have chosen. I read it again, I keep reading it until I can read it and make no changes. Then it goes to the editor. When the editor sends it back and I read it again. When I am satisfied it will be published. Don’t make the mistake that I am hard to deal with. I am harder on myself. I know I can improve and always welcome advice. If you think your work can’t be improved on your are kidding yourself.
I never get tired of reading my work. I am inspired and feel the emotions every time. I have read it a couple more times since it has been published. Why, I am working on the second book in the series (Seasons Justice Is Not for the Weak) and it is important the character personalities and the flow remains consistent with the first book (Seasons Once Upon My Innocence).
I take my writing seriously. I want every person who reads my writing to feel emotions, cause them to think and take them on a journey. I will have no regrets, I can say I did everything in my power to make a difference in this world.
